Pakistan and India will meet on Sunday

Cricketing giants India and Pakistan could square off three times in two weeks of T20 competition in the United Arab Emirates.

The six-nation tournament was moved from Sri Lanka due to political unrest and takes on greater significance this year with the T20 World Cup in Australia fast approaching in October and November.

Sri Lanka face Afghanistan in the opening match on saturday, but all eyes will be on India and Pakistan, who meet in Dubai on today.

India will be looking to avenge their 10-wicket humiliation at the hands of Pakistan at the same venue in last year's T20 World Cup and captain Rohit Sharma will be looking to keep his players in check as the anticipation and excitement among the fans reaches a fever pitch.

"Everyone is watching the game and it's a high-pressure game no doubt, but we want to create a normal atmosphere in the group," he told Star Sports.

"We don't want to hype this game too much. It's important to tell the players who haven't played against Pakistan or have only played them once or twice that it's just another opponent."

India head coach Rahul Dravid on Wednesday appointed Covid and India former batsman VVS Laxman to take charge on an interim basis.
