The United Arab Emirates authorities have warned of action against fans breaking disciplinary rules following clashes between spectators at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday who had gone to watch matches between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the ongoing 2022 Asian Cup.
In a nail-biting contest at the Super Four stage of the tournament, Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by one wicket to book their ticket to the final.
Afghan fans were outraged as a result, with some attacking Pakistani supporters with seats installed in the stands.
Authorities said they would keep a close eye on spectators and any damage caused to the grounds or injuries to other spectators would be dealt with severely.
They added that fans should follow the rules and that the field of sports requires sportsmanship from everyone, including spectators.
Naseem Shah's two sixes off the first two balls of the final over helped Pakistan pull victory from the clutches of defeat.
The one-wicket win means Pakistan will now face Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final.
