Punjab bans teachers from using YouTube in schools
The Punjab Education Department (SED) has decided to ban teachers from using YouTube. The development comes after the SED received complaints that some teachers were running YouTube channels.
SED also creates a list of teachers who run YouTube channels. The ministry ordered the relevant authorities to monitor the activities of these teachers.
An SED official said that teachers are not allowed to create and run non-educational YouTube channels. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against teachers who violate the law.
The official said teachers' attention was diverted due to unrestricted use of social media, especially YouTube. While they should focus on imparting knowledge to students.
Last October, Punjab's Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Colleges banned government college employees from using social media platforms and talking to the media.
The DPI claimed that the use of social media platforms by teachers and principals of public colleges is against the Punjab Government Rules (PGSR). The DPI also warned to initiate disciplinary proceedings against employees found guilty of violating the PGSR.
