Hazrat Ali Hujwiri Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A) was an 11th century Sufi saint. He was born in Ghazni, Afghanistan and died in Lahore, Pakistan. Data Ganj Bakhsh will always be remembered as a man who spent his life preaching Islam. His Urs is observed every year from 18th to 20th safar at Data Darbar.
Public holiday in Lahore on Ganj Bakhsh Darbar dates
LAHORE – The district government has declared September 17 (Saturday) as a local holiday to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Baksh.
The notification reads that 17th September 2022 will be observed as a local holiday in Lahore District for the 979th Annual Urs of Data Gunj Bakh (R.A).
She further added that the holidays will be observed only at the district level and its subordinate offices located in Lahore district.
The Punjab Cabinet had earlier discussed the security of Hazrat Imam's Chehlum and urs Data Ganj Bakhsh.
The provincial government has also taken extra security measures and security officials have been deployed while surveillance cameras have been installed to monitor the Urs celebrations.

LAHORE: The three-day celebrations of the 979th Urs of Hazrat Ali bin Usman Hajveri, popularly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh, will begin on Thursday (today).
Punjab Chief Minister's Special Assistant on Auqaf Syed Rafaqat Ali Gilani will inaugurate the event by laying a floral wreath at the mausoleum of the 10th century saint who was among the pioneers of preaching Islam in the subcontinent, especially in Punjab.
Gilani will also inaugurate a milk sabeel in front of the shrine while Auqaf Minister Mian Abrar Ahmed, Auqaf DG Tahir Raza Bukhari and other officials will also accompany him. The inauguration will be followed by an international Qirat competition where eminent national and international Qaris will participate in the competition. The Punjab government has earmarked Rs 12.5 million to organize various events during the 3-day Urs celebrations, which will be attended by more than 500 religious scholars, shrine custodians, Qaris, Naat Khawans from Pakistan and abroad. Notable participants include Syed Bilal Chishti, Custodian of Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz (RA) Shrine, Khawaja Fareed-ud-Din Fakhri, Custodian of Hazrat Shams Piya Shrine in Aurangabad, and Pir Syed Dewan Tahir Nizami, Custodian of Nizrat Khawaja-Nizrat Khawaja- Din Auliya ( RA).
As per tradition, the milk seller community will brought thousands of liters of milk as a donation for the milk sabeel which will distributed among thousands of devotees and visitors. Groups of devotees and pilgrims, many of them led by their spiritual leaders and local Gaddi Nasheens, kept coming to the well-lit shrine for the past two days, marching to the beat of drums and reciting naats and hymns.
Groups of these Sufis and their disciples will brought their beds and baggage for the next three days and crowded into the shrine's courtyards and verandahs, laying down mats and sheets for temporary accommodation. A large number of philanthropists provided free food (langar) to them as part of the religious services. The district administration has taken all necessary measures to maintain peace and security during the Urs.
