A visit to a zoo
A zoo is a place where animals are bred and kept for the common man to see. Different varieties of birds are also kept here in the zoo. The purpose of a zoo is to show us, the common people, the different kinds of animals and birds that exist around the world before people who may never see these creatures get a simple chance to see them.
Visiting the zoo increases general knowledge and at the same time we get entertainment with success. The zoo is a place that children especially like to visit.
Last Sunday I visited the Lahore Zoo to see the animals and birds kept at the place. It is one of the largest zoos in the country. It is a very attractive place. Every day it is always crowded with thousands of people and children. It is a beautiful and natural place with many types of trees.
In addition to plants, shrubs and grassy areas, the zoo also has many animals and birds that come from many countries around the world. There we saw beautiful birds with different colored feathers. There were pelicans, Siberian crane, peafowl, peacocks, sparrows, nightingales, kingfishers, etc.
We saw cranes, storks, ducks and swans swimming in the pond. Some birds were singing, chirping and whistling. We were very amused to see different species of monkeys and gorillas . I was very pleased to see my favorite animals which included tigers, lions, leopard and cheetah. There were also many elephants, giraffes, rhinos and crocodiles in the zoo.
Other attractions of the zoo were deer, stags, hares, antelopes and rabbits. The funniest were the playful chimpanzees. They performed different tricks and we all enjoyed their acrobatics.
We visited the whole vast area of the zoo and saw all the cages with animals and birds, but what I liked most was the natural environment created for the lion. He has a huge den like home in a deep cave in a huge rock. There is an open area for the lion near his home where he can roam freely. There is also a huge pond near his home filled with water for the lion to drink.
The atmosphere created is exactly like the jungle we imagine to be where the lion is supposed to live. This area gives us a very clear picture of what a jungle is and we also understand the living condition of a lion in the jungle very easily. It teaches more than any book could because we see the lion himself and the surroundings as they are.
It was so much fun to see all the big monkeys jumping from tree to tree with such ease. Huge and very fat monkeys have been seen jumping with as much ease as small and thin ones. The most interesting sight was the sight of them eating fruit thrown to them by the children.
After visiting the zoo, we felt tired and hungry. We sat under a tree and ate our tiffin. Sometimes we went back to our school. We thanked the teacher for such a pleasant trip that we learned many things about animals. For the first time I saw some animals that I had only seen in pictures before.
My visit to the zoo was great fun . It was also very educational and informative. A zoo helps us learn so many things without visiting the natural environment of animals and birds.
