Punjab to hire 100 principals for state colleges

The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has decided to fill 100 vacancies of college principals across the province.

It has been decided for colleges that are running without a full-time principal, including the five colleges in Lahore.

According to details, the colleges functioning without a full-time principal in Lahore include Government College (GC) Township, GC Model Town, Queen Mary College and GC College on Ravi Road.

The duties of directors at these institutes are performed ad hoc either by credentials or by professors, which has led to administrative and academic problems.

HED has announced that it will fill these positions expeditiously. Several applications have been received for them and the shortlisted candidates will be interviewed next week. The spokeswoman of the department also claimed that an important decision would be made soon.

In other related news, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Punjab plans to launch a special scholarship program for Ph.D. students, as announced by its chairman, prof. Dr. Shahid Munir.

He said that HEC Punjab is focused on promoting quality research to solve the problems of industry and contribute to the growth of Pakistan. Pakistan's education sector will never progress unless fundamental changes are made in the quality of education in schools, colleges and universities, he noted.

Pakistan would do well to receive assistance from other states to improve its education sector as this will help promote education diplomacy and tourism and strengthen bilateral relations.
