Safar is the second month of islamic calendar
Safar is the second month of the lunar calendar. There are many misconceptions prevalent among people about this month. On the one hand, bad luck and omens were associated with this month, and on the other hand, custom solutions were also proposed for such things as not marrying in this month, cooking chickpeas and distributing them so that bad omens are passed on to others, make 365 balls of flour and throw them into water to ward off bad omens.
All such superstitions and beliefs have no basis in Islam. How can any day or month be unlucky or portend a bad omen when in reality months and years are formed by the alternation of day and night and Allah (swt) made day and night a sign and to help us to create a calendar .
"And We established the night and the day as two signs. Then We blotted out the signs of the night (with darkness) while We enlightened the signs of the day, that you may seek bounty from your Lord and that you may know the number of years and reckoning. And We explained everything (in detail) with by full explanation.” (Al Isra 17:12)
Allah (swt) also told us the purpose of the different phases of the moon. It helps us mark the beginning and end of the months and Allah (swt) also told us that there are twelve months. He says:
“They ask you (O Muhammad (PBUH)) about the new moons. Say: These are signs to mark fixed periods for mankind and for the pilgrimage.” (Al Baqarah 2:189)
"Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so it was ordained by Allah on the day He created the heavens and the earth." (In Tawbah 9:36)
It is this revolution of day and night that makes up the weeks, months and years that make up time, of which Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that Allah (swt) said:
"The son of Adam harms me because he abuses time, although I am time: in my hands are all things, and I cause the revolution of day and night." (Bukhaarian)
So it is quite clear that day and night are from Allah (swt) and to consider any time, hour, day, month or year as inauspicious is a great misconception and sin.
